Botox Cosmetic helps prevent new wrinkles from forming

As of 2026, BOTOX® Cosmetic remains one of the most requested non-surgical treatments nationwide. At South Jersey Skin Care & Laser Center in NJ, BOTOX® continues to be a patient favorite.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a clinically proven neuromodulator. It temporarily relaxes specific facial muscles. This reduces dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated expressions. Patients across South Jersey and the Philadelphia area choose BOTOX® to smooth:

  • Frown lines between the brows
  • Forehead creases
  • Crow’s feet around the eyes

Results appear gradually within a few days. Improvements typically last several months. Treatments require no surgery and minimal downtime.

Over time, repeated muscle movement, collagen loss, sun exposure, and stress cause expression lines to deepen. In today’s digital world, high-definition cameras and video meetings make these lines more noticeable. BOTOX® offers both prevention and correction. It softens existing wrinkles and helps slow the formation of deeper lines. At South Jersey Skin Care & Laser Center, every treatment plan is customized. We assess muscle strength, facial balance, and aesthetic goals. Our approach focuses on natural- looking results. You will look refreshed, not frozen.

Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Robin Levin leads our team with advanced expertise in cosmetic dermatology. We stay current with modern injection techniques and refined dosing strategies to ensure optimal outcomes for 2026, 2027, and beyond. BOTOX® remains the gold standard in wrinkle reduction because it is predictable, versatile, and backed by decades of clinical use. For patients seeking subtle rejuvenation without surgery, it continues to be one of the most effective aesthetic treatments available.

What is BOTOX®?

BOTOX® Cosmetic treats dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are facial lines caused by repeated muscle movement. They are often the earliest visible signs of aging. Many patients notice them in their 20s or 30s.

Dynamic wrinkles form differently from static wrinkles. Static wrinkles develop from collagen loss, sun exposure, and intrinsic aging. Dynamic wrinkles are primarily caused by facial muscle activity.

These lines appear when the face is in motion. They are most common in areas where muscles contract frequently, including:

Facial expressions such as smiling, frowning, squinting, talking, and chewing require repeated muscle contraction. Each time muscles contract, they pull the skin out of its resting position.

Over time, the skin produces less collagen and elastin. It becomes thinner and less resilient. As elasticity declines, the skin does not return to its original position as easily after movement. This leads to lines that deepen gradually.

What begins as temporary creasing during expression can become visible even at rest. Constant muscle activity may also contribute to facial asymmetry and imbalance. As dynamic wrinkles become more pronounced, they can create an unintended appearance. Patients may look tired, stressed, angry, or older than they feel.

BOTOX® works by temporarily relaxing the targeted muscles responsible for these repetitive movements. By reducing muscle contraction, it softens existing dynamic wrinkles and helps prevent them from becoming more deeply etched into the skin.

How Does BOTOX® Cosmetic Work?

Many people in the Philadelphia and New Jersey areas have heard of BOTOX® Cosmetic but may not know all its benefits. At South Jersey Skin Care & Laser Center, patients often ask: “What is BOTOX® made of?” and “How does it work?” BOTOX® is a prescription injectable. It contains small, diluted doses of a protein called botulinum toxin type A. This protein is used to smooth facial wrinkles and expression lines.

The purified protein works by temporarily relaxing muscles that cause major facial wrinkles. It blocks the signal that tells the muscles to contract. When the message does not reach the muscle, the muscle stays relaxed. As a result, the overlying skin remains smooth, reducing the appearance of lines and folds.

BOTOX® is effective, predictable, and minimally invasive. It targets dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated facial movement, helping patients achieve a refreshed, youthful appearance.

Interaction of nerve and muscle under normal circumstances
Nerve signals are blocked reducing the muscles ability to contract and cause wrinkles

BOTOX® Details: BOTOX® comes from bacteria that create a simple protein, similar to how mold produces penicillin. To create BOTOX®, manufacturers sterilize and freeze-dry this protein, two peptides joined by a disulphide bond, which is later reconstituted when ready for use by a dermatologist or other medical professional. Once injected, the protein impacts specifically targeted nerves that control muscle contraction and relaxation. The botulinum toxin type A in BOTOX® prevents messages from the nerves from reaching the muscles, thereby stopping them from contracting. The nerves absorb the BOTOX®, after which the muscle is relaxed for a period of months. This effect fades gradually as the protein is broken down by the body into its basic peptides. *

Why Choose Dr. Robin Levin?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is widely available, but not all providers are equal. Patients in New Jersey may see options ranging from salons to dentists, and it can be tempting to just search for “BOTOX® near me” and choose the first provider you find.

Choosing the right provider is critical. BOTOX® requires precise knowledge of facial anatomy. The face has more than 30 muscles, each controlling expressions like smiling, frowning, squinting, or raising the eyebrows. These muscles also contribute to the formation of lines, wrinkles, and folds.

At South Jersey Skin Care & Laser Center, Dr. Robin Levin’s team understands how these muscles interact. Their expertise ensures BOTOX® injections target the correct muscles safely, producing natural, effective results.

Just as you wouldn’t trust a minimally trained mechanic with a complex car repair, you shouldn’t rely on someone with limited BOTOX® training. A board-certified dermatologist and skin specialist, like Dr. Levin, combines knowledge, skill, and care to achieve the best aesthetic outcomes.

BOTOX® Cosmetic: Treatment Areas Explained

BOTOX® Cosmetic primarily targets the upper face. Injections are precision-focused to relax the muscles that cause lines and wrinkles between and above the eyebrows. Treatment typically focuses on three key muscles:

  • Corrugator supercilii and procerus – responsible for frown lines on the forehead
  • Orbicularis oculi – responsible for crow’s feet around the eyes

By relaxing these muscles, BOTOX® smooths existing wrinkles and prevents new lines from forming, while leaving natural facial expressions intact.

BOTOX® is FDA-approved for moderate to severe glabellar lines, forehead wrinkles, and crow’s feet, but we also use it for several off-label applications. It is commonly used on other muscles to treat aesthetic problems that range from downturned corners of the mouth and eyebrows to neck bands. It can also shape the jaw for a slimmer look or overall face-slimming effect, smooth the chin, provide a brow lift, and reduce muscle- related wrinkles and bulges under the eyes. We also provide BOTOX® to reduce excessive underarm sweating.

Some people are interested in other uses, such as injections to relax the trapezius muscles or manage migraines. South Jersey Skin Care does not offer these treatments, but we can explain more about how BOTOX® works to those who are curious.

Botox treatment areas by dermatologist Dr. Levin in New Jersey

Dr. Robin Levin is experienced in administering BOTOX® Cosmetic for New Jersey patients. She treats wrinkles and other facial aesthetic concerns with precision. The most common areas include forehead lines that appear when raising the eyebrows, frown lines that form when scowling, and crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes. BOTOX® works by blocking chemical signals to the muscles, preventing contractions. This smooths existing wrinkles and helps prevent new lines from forming.

Since BOTOX® works by stopping chemical signals from reaching their intended destination, it is also effective for temporary treatment of: *

  • Low eyebrow: Eyebrow shaping requires a skilled hand. Dr. Robin Levin uses BOTOX® to coax muscles into positioning an eyebrow that doesn't sag but also doesn't sit too high.
  • Bunny lines: These are creases that appear when the nose is wrinkled. BOTOX® can prevent the underlying muscle that causes them from contracting.
  • Lip lines: These are vertical wrinkles that run radially round the mouth but soften or disappear when treated.
  • Gummy smiles: Many people don't want to reveal much of their gums when they smile, and BOTOX® can prevent their upper lip from retracting too far.
  • Dimpled chin: Overactive muscles can create the appearance of divots in the chin, but they can be relaxed.
  • Neck bands: Surgery can help to address the loss of chin and neck contour, but BOTOX® offers a temporary solution for patients looking to address the lines caused by loose and protruding jaw muscles.
  • Downturning of the mouth: Also known as downturned or droopy mouth corners, these create a sad look but can be treated with BOTOX® and coaxed to lift.

BOTOX® FAQs

Before beginning your treatment, you will be assessed during a personalized consultation to determine whether BOTOX® is the best option for you and where you would benefit from the injections. We will also discuss your medical history, including any previous cosmetic treatments you have had, to help you decide whether BOTOX® is the right choice.

Consultations for BOTOX® begin with our Cosmetic Consultant, Tara Avallone, who provides a thorough and personalized consultation. During this time, Tara takes the opportunity to understand each patient’s goals while carefully reviewing the benefits, potential risks, treatment costs, consent forms, and before photographs. This comprehensive approach ensures patients have the time and attention needed to ask questions and feel fully informed about their options.

Following the consultation, patients meet with the injector, Dr. Levin or Michelle Smalley, PA- C, who will review the recommendations discussed, confirm treatment goals, and go over the treatment plan. Your provider will also answer any remaining questions before moving forward, ensuring that every treatment is performed thoughtfully and with a clear, shared understanding of the desired results.

This is an excellent time to share with your injector what it is you are hoping to accomplish with your visit and your goals for cosmetic treatments. You can also ask any questions you may have about BOTOX® or other aesthetic dermatology options available.

You might be wondering, “What is the procedure like for BOTOX®?” BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment is quick, typically taking only a few minutes. The injectable is placed directly into the muscle to relax targeted areas. Most patients feel just a slight pinch, and numbing options like ice or topical cream are available if desired. However, most patients do not need this as the procedure is quick and virtually painless. There is no downtime, and patients from Philadelphia and South Jersey can resume normal activities immediately. The combination of a short treatment, minimal discomfort, and natural-looking results makes BOTOX® a popular choice.

Patients may see BOTOX® Cosmetic results within 14 days once the product settles into the targeted muscles. If you’re wondering, “How long does BOTOX® last?” results are temporary. Under optimal conditions, effects typically last up to four months. During this time, treated muscles remain relaxed, so expressions like frowning or smiling won’t create wrinkles such as crow’s feet or forehead lines. Reduced muscle activity can also help prevent lines from deepening. Your face will still look natural—just smoother and more refreshed.

As BOTOX® gradually wears off, muscle movement and some wrinkles will return. Maintenance treatments every few months can help sustain results. Many patients find that consistent use has a preventative benefit, training muscles to relax and softening lines over time.

Rather than focusing on the number of injections needed for a specific wrinkle, Dr. Levin emphasizes a balanced approach to BOTOX® Cosmetic. Many patients initially focus on a single concern—such as crow’s feet or frown lines—but treating only one area can sometimes create noticeable imbalances in facial movement. Instead, Dr. Levin and our Cosmetic Consultant evaluate how the muscles of the upper face work together and recommend treatment across complementary areas when appropriate. This comprehensive approach supports smoother, more even results while maintaining natural facial expression and overall harmony. Our Cosmetic Consultant and Dr. Levin both believe in balanced facial movement for a more natural result. This cannot be done by treating only one area of the face. Rather than reducing just one wrinkle at a time, a comprehensive treatment area can help enhance the overall harmony of the face.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is FDA-approved and safely used by millions of patients worldwide each year. Side effects are possible, as with any injectable, but they are typically mild and temporary.

Common side effects include bruising and swelling at the injection site. Rare side effects may include eyelid drooping (about three percent in frown line treatment), eyelid swelling (about one percent in crow’s feet treatment), headache, neck pain, dry eyes, or blurred vision.

Patients experiencing concerning symptoms should contact Dr. Robin Levin promptly. The manufacturer, Allergan, provides detailed safety information outlining known risks. BOTOX® is not recommended during pregnancy.

Results for Philadelphia and New Jersey patients typically last three to four months. At South Jersey Skin Care & Laser Center, treatments are performed under the leadership of a board-certified dermatologist. Our expertise in facial anatomy and skin health supports safe injections and natural-looking results, from consultation through follow- up care.

Both BOTOX® Cosmetic and DAXXIFY® are FDA-approved neuromodulators that relax facial muscles to reduce dynamic wrinkles such as frown lines. They work in similar ways, but their duration differs. BOTOX® and DAXXIFY® Lite typically last three to four months, while DAXXIFY® Premium may last for five to six months in some patients. BOTOX® has a longer track record and multiple cosmetic and medical approvals, whereas DAXXIFY® is newer and currently approved for frown lines. The best option depends on your goals, desired treatment frequency, and how your body responds to each product.

Enhance BOTOX® Cosmetic with Other Treatments

BOTOX® Cosmetic is ideal for treating dynamic wrinkles. For static wrinkles caused by collagen loss, dermal fillers are often a better option. Injectable hyaluronic acid–based fillers, like the RHA® family, can smooth nasolabial folds, plump lips, and restore volume to hollowed areas on the mid-and lower face.

Patients seeking a comprehensive anti-aging approach can combine BOTOX® with custom-selected fillers at our New Jersey practice. Each plan is tailored to your specific facial anatomy and aesthetic goals. The result is smoother, fuller, and more youthful- looking skin.

Skin resurfacing treatments can further enhance results. Chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and microneedling improve skin texture, even tone, and stimulate collagen production. These treatments complement BOTOX® and fillers by addressing surface-level signs of aging.

At South Jersey Skin Care & Laser Center, we evaluate each patient individually. Our cosmetic consultant creates a personalized anti-aging plan that combines BOTOX®, fillers, and resurfacing treatments.

Our team is made up of experienced, trained providers who prioritize safety, comfort, and natural-looking results. Every treatment is designed to enhance your features while maintaining a harmonious and refreshed appearance.
