Juvéderm® & Voluma

Dermal Fillers in South Jersey

Volume loss in our faces is inevitable, since various supporting elements in our skin naturally diminish as we age. This loss is a major reason why we lose a youthful profile, projecting an older or even sickly appearance. This problem can also extend to people who have lost a significant amount of weight, as fat reduction can create sunken hollows on the face and elsewhere.

Juvéderm® & Voluma, two fillers available in New Jersey from South Jersey Skin Care & Laser Center, are specially formulated to correct these facial structure issues, temporarily reversing these signs of aging or negative results of weight loss by adding volume where it's needed to create youthful contours and a healthy-looking roundness.

A Focus on Juvéderm®

Juvéderm® is a favorite among New Jersey women and men for softening wrinkles, plumping lips, and maintaining a youthful appearance. Unlike facial surgery, the treatment is quick, easy, and requires little to no recovery time. The treatment is comprised of a hyaluronic acid, which is naturally found in our bodies.

Juvéderm® is administered by a simple injection, targeting key areas where lines have formed, typically around your nose and mouth. This requires a critical eye to ensure that the filler is going exactly where it is needed to provide natural-looking contours and smoothed-out skin.

When Juvéderm® is injected into certain areas of the face, it adds volume, which slightly stretches the skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles, lines, and folds. The hyaluronic acid that makes up the product helps to fill out areas of the face where it is needed, and has even been found to accelerate the formation of new collagen. This is a big plus, as collagen is a support structure that helps skin maintain a healthy, fresh look. Ample collagen means fewer wrinkles and longer-lasting results after a Juvéderm® treatment session.

Juvederm Treatment Areas
Caption - Although Dr. Levin uses Juvéderm® and facial fillers to skilfully treat a number of areas on the face, the most popular areas that are improved with Juvéderm® are the nasolabial folds (deep lines that run from near the bottom of the nose and down the sides of the mouth), Marionette lines (deep lines that run down from the corners of the mouth), and for plumping lips.

A Focus on Voluma

Voluma is specifically designed to restore volume lost in the cheek area, commonly referred to as the "apple." The overall effect is often described as a subtle lift, and the results are instantly noticeable. Patients who choose Voluma do so to restore facial contours without having surgery.

Voluma Treatment

Voluma is distinct from other fillers in that results from Voluma can last for up to 21 months or longer, and it is FDA approved for deep injection in the cheek area for patients who are 21 and older.

With a Voluma treatment at our South Jersey practice, some patients may experience some swelling or bruising around the injection sites, but this should subside quickly. Treatment time takes about 30 minutes, and patients are free to return to their normal activities afterward, though they may be cautioned to avoid sunlight and physical exertion for a day or longer after their session in New Jersey.

Since the two types of Juvéderm® filler are used in different areas of the face, they are employed separately to treat specific regions of focus. You may want to discuss whether using them in concert to rejuvenate your overall cheek, nose, and mouth area at once is right for you.

What is the Hyaluronic Acid in Juvéderm®?

The key component in Juvéderm® and other fillers is hyaluronic acid, which is something we're all born with. The natural chemical has a variety of important jobs throughout the body, including keeping joints lubricated and contributing to healthy fluid in the eyes. It also keeps our skin pliant, soft, and full.

The problem with hyaluronic acid is that its presence in our bodies diminishes over time. Overexposure to ultraviolet light (such as what leads to a sunburn) can limit its production, and its loss is very noticeable in our skin. Wrinkles form and our facial shape changes as volume drains away from such areas as the cheeks. A lack of hyaluronic acid, coupled with a corresponding loss of aesthetically beneficial fat, can create a gaunt look by causing facial hollows.

Juvéderm® and Voluma reintroduce hyaluronic acid to these problem areas as they add volume, filling in sunken regions and softening harsh, angular lines by rounding them off.

Juvéderm® XC is manufactured via a process that produces what is known as cross-linked hyaluronic acid, which is a smooth gel, as opposed to a liquid, which helps it last longer once injected into the face. However, since hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring, the fluid from Juvéderm® injections is gradually absorbed back into the body over time. This makes the aesthetic benefits temporary, but also safe to use multiple times as needed for touch-ups or repeated maintenance injections.

Juvéderm® Recovery

Following a Juvéderm® treatment, Dr. Levin may massage the treatment sites to make sure the filler is properly distributed and the results are even. Before you leave, ice may be applied to your treatment sites to help minimize swelling, inflammation, and bruising. Such side effects, when present, were found in studies to be moderate and last two to four weeks or less. If patients experience anything longer than that after receiving Juvéderm®, they should contact their doctor.

Typically, our South Jersey Juvéderm® & Voluma patients notice:

  • Treatment is virtually painless
  • Juvéderm® results last longer than other fillers on the market
  • A smoother and more taut facial appearance
