PRP

Platelet-Rich Plasma in Mt. Laurel and Hammonton, NJ

Blood is an amazing part of the human body, carrying oxygen where needed from head to toe, carting away waste, and helping with the closure of wounds. Its versatility—and especially its ability to aid in healing efforts—have given rise to a specialized cosmetic dermatology treatment known as platelet-rich plasma or PRP. NJ-based South Jersey Skin Care & Laser Center offers PRP for patients seeking skin rejuvenation and other benefits of this injectable treatment made from their own blood.

Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Robin Levin and the team of skin care specialists at South Jersey Skin Care & Laser Center are happy to offer PRP in NJ. Click here to schedule an appointment or consultation. If you prefer, you may also contact us directly at 856-810-9888.

What is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma does not exist in the body, but must be made by a process that concentrates the most revitalizing parts of the blood into a single treatment. First, a small amount of blood will be drawn—enough to provide the necessary elements, but not so much that the body has a negative reaction to the loss.

This blood is then spun in a centrifuge, which allows the powerful platelets to separate out from other elements. Platelets are actually pieces of cells that play a role in closing cuts and other wounds, as well as with general healing throughout the body. When removed and concentrated, their healing abilities can be put to work in a more focused area.

Once properly processed, the PRP is administered where desired. In the skin, the high concentration of platelets focuses on healing all sorts of damage, including signs of aging and ultraviolet radiation.

Is PRP a Standalone Treatment?

PRP is especially adaptable, pairing well with other treatments, such as microneedling, which creates hundreds to thousands of tiny channels in the skin at every session. These channels prompt a natural healing response, which can be further boosted with the application of PRP.

The overall effect is noticeable rejuvenation, given the repair work being done below the surface of the skin. For further improvement, consider pairing PRP with Vivace, which adds the rejuvenating benefits of radiofrequency energy to the treatment.

Platelet-rich plasma can also be used in combination with other services available at South Jersey Skin Care & Laser Center. Contact the practice to discuss customizable treatment options and discover how to optimize their skin-revitalizing results.

PRP for Hair Loss

The revitalizing properties of PRP also make it a particularly effective hair restoration treatment. The concentrated platelets can revive dormant follicles, stimulating them to promote the growth of new hair in areas where the scalp has become visible. This is natural growth, with initial results visible in about three to four months.

How Long Will PRP Results Last?

The effects of PRP are both cumulative and gradual—appearing over the course of weeks and months throughout a series of treatments.

For skin treatments, every person's skin ages in a unique way. Collagen levels improve in the skin along with other benefits—until an ideal is reached. From that point, natural cell turnover, collagen destruction, and environmental damage will continue to age the skin. Results are best maintained by wearing proper sun protection at all times when outdoors, as well as getting plenty of sleep, eating well, and staying properly hydrated.

For hair restoration, five treatments are suggested in the first year, followed by one or two treatments each following year as needed to maintain a healthy head of hair.
